His step-daughter Natalie Chown told The Advertiser he was “the most genuine, caring and loving man I have ever known”.

He was a “much loved” father and grandfather, she said.

“We can not express how devastated we are,” she said.

Judy Pearson posted a tribute on Facebook saying she had known and worked with Mr Iordanis for more than 25 years.

“I was so shocked to get the phone call last night,” she wrote.

“Had many laughs with you. You will be missed by so many people at work. Still can’t believe it.

“You were awesome man. Heart of gold.”

Anne-Marie Pepe wrote on Facebook that Mr Iordanis was “one of the nicest (guys) you would ever meet who would give you everything at any time”.

“Will miss my work neighbour. Love you John and will miss your cheeky smile, our chats and our banter.

“He certainly was an awesome man.”

Mr Iordanis was driving a green Ford Falcon, one of five vehicles involved in the horror crash that occurred on the Southern Expressway, Huntfield Heights.

The drivers of the other cars were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr Iordanis died at the scene, becoming the 44th person to be killed on South Australia’s roads this year.

Glengowrie resident Lynn Young saw Mr Iordanis’ green Ford moments before the crash.

“I’m looking in the background and I see this green car,” Ms Young said.

She said she had “never been so close to a car”.

“I don’t know how he didn’t hit me,” Ms Young said.

“It was so scary. I’ve been driving 46 years, never seen anything like that.”
