A southern suburbs man has died following a horrific multi-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon. The accident caused long traffic delays along the Southern Expressway.
Emergency services were called to the Huntfield Heights scene just before 5pm after reports that five vehicles – four cars and a concrete pumping truck – were involved in a crash.
A 58-year-old Christies Beach man driving a green Ford Falcon, sadly died at the scene – marking the 44th life lost on our state’s roads this year.
The other drivers were all taken to hospital after sustaining non-life threatening injuries.
Southbound traffic on Southern Expressway and northbound traffic on Main South Rd at Huntfield Heights remains closed, while Major Crash officers examine the scene.
Earlier, SA Infrastructure and Transport warned motorists of major traffic delays in the area and urged drivers to allow for extra time when travelling.
“The Southern Expressway is closed to all southbound traffic at Beach Road and currently down to one lane for northbound traffic on Main South Road past the incident,” they said.
“Northbound on Main South Road is now also closed with traffic being diverted down the Southern Expressway.”
