There has been a huge outpouring of tributes for the young pilot who was killed in a plane crash in the state’s Far North on Thursday.
Adam Snell, 22, has been remembered as “a kind, caring young man” by his close relatives after he died following a plane crash at Mulgathing, 500km north of Ceduna.
A relative of Mr Snell – who asked to remain anonymous – revealed the young pilot was Melbourne-born, but raised in Auckland, New Zealand.
The relative said Mr Snell worked in Australia to realise his career ambitions.
“Adam always wanted to be a pilot and loved planes since he was a child,” they told The Advertiser.
“Training to be a pilot was something he had always worked towards and moving to Australia enabled him to gain some flying hours towards his goal of flying long haul flights and travel the world.”
The news of Mr Snell’s death has devastated his community at home.
“We are all reeling from the news,” they said.
“He was such a kind, caring young man with an awesome sense of humour and we will miss him so much.
“He was happy-go-lucky and wouldn’t say a bad thing about anyone.
“He had an amazing girlfriend and a great group of friends over in New Zealand who will always miss him.”
Mr Snell’s family would like others to remember him for his gentle nature.
The incident is being investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), while the police prepare a report for the Coroner.
In a statement, a spokesman from the ATSB told The Advertiser an investigation was underway into the Cessna 172’s collision with terrain “during mustering operations” on Thursday morning.
