Train and car collide after Nissan Patrol becomes stuck on track in Lonsdale

A train has collided with a car after it became stuck on the track at a popular station.

A train collided with a car when the vehicle became stuck on the track at Lonsdale in the early hours on Friday morning.

Police allege the driver of a black Nissan Patrol entered the train track from Christie Road and drove about 100m south before trying to reverse, but the car became stuck on the track.

Shortly after, a train travelling south collided into the read of the Nissan. No one was injured — the driver, a 30-year-old Morphett Vale man, and his passenger were not in the car at the time — but the vehicle was extensively damaged.

None of the passengers on the train were injured and the car was removed from the tracks at around 5am.

Police are investigating the incident and asking and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
