CCTV footage has emerged of the tragic moment a little boy and his brother wandered away from their home, shortly before the toddler drowned in a nearby creek.
SAPOL confirmed the boy, aged under two, died at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital on Monday afternoon, only a day after incident.
The child received CPR at the scene after being pulled from Little Para River at Paralowie at around 9am Sunday but could not be saved.
Footage obtained by 7NEWS appears to show the child searching for chocolate Easter eggs with another child, understood to be his older brother, near their Paralowie home and wandering towards the river moments before the tragedy.
Mourners on Tuesday morning came to the Little Para River site to offer condolences to the family, one laying flowers with a note that said: “Rest in peace beautiful boy” along with a small white teddy and a toy car.
Bunches of pink flowers were taped to the bridge and a grey koala toy was tied to the handrail.
Rivergum Circuit neighbour Ryan Nuske told The Advertiser he saw the scene unfolding.
“I came out and saw the dad walking down the street looking panicked,” Mr Nuske said on Monday.
“When I got there he (the boy) had just been pulled out of the water.”
The creek had been dry until 11mm of rain fell in three consecutive days before the incident.
“Often the creek is dry, but when there’s been rain, it picks up from the roads, and it goes into the creeks, and therefore we all need to be aware when there’s water around,” Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge told 7NEWS.
On Sunday another nearby resident said the family had rushed to the scene – where a single red rose has since been placed – leaving their black Hyundai IX35 down an embankment.
Police, ambulance and MedSTAR attended the incident and he was first taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
