A toddler is fighting for his life in hospital after being pulled unconscious from the Little Para River at Paralowie by ambulance workers on Sunday.

Police, ambulance and MedSTAR were called to the suburb just after 9am after reports of the incident in the Little Para River.

The boy, under the age of two, received CPR at the scene before being taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital.

He was subsequently transferred to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

A neighbour told The Advertiser she believes the family car was left at the scene after the family rushed to the child’s rescue.

The black Hyundai IX35 has since been removed from the scene by a neighbour and returned to the family.

Rivergum Circuit neighbour Ryan Nuske saw the scene unfolding.

“I came out and saw the dad walking down the street looking panicked,” Mr Nuske said.

“When I got there he (the boy) had just been pulled out of the water.”

Yan Chen, a neighbour of the child’s family, said when she left home this morning at about 8.30am she saw a small child’s sofa in the road.

“I saw the couch in the middle of the road,” she said.

“I didn’t see any kids.”

The neighbour then returned back home about 10.30am when she realised something was askew.

“I saw a couple of people in front of the house and then one lady was really really sad,” she said.

Ms Chen said the child’s family is friendly and “very good” with their children.

A single rose has been left at the creek where it is believed the incident happened.

Mandy Farndale, a Greentree Blvd resident who lives across from the creek, said she came out of her house when she heard sirens.

“We noticed there were a whole lot of ambulances rushing to the creek,” she said.

“I looked across and saw them working on someone,” she said.
