Three young girls arrested and charged in Port Lincoln with shop thefts and threats

Two teenagers have been charged after a bushfire was allegedly lit and scorched about an acre of land.

Three pre-teen girls have been arrested after allegedly robbing a number of Port Lincoln businesses and threatening their staff at the weekend.

Police were called after the youths allegedly behaved in “a disorderly manner” and stole from businesses in the area on Sunday.

“The youths allegedly verbally abused and threatened staff and customers and stole items from a supermarket and nearby shopping complex,” police said.

Patrols arrested three girls – aged 10, 11 and 12 – and charged them with disorderly behaviour and theft.

They were granted police bail and are due to appear at Port Lincoln Youth Court in January.

It comes as two teens were arrested and charged after a bushfire in Port Lincoln, also on Sunday evening.

Just before 6pm, emergency services were called to the intersection of Bernard Place and Garrett Road after reports of a scrub fire.

The fire was controlled by MFS and CFS and contained about an acre. No homes were affected and there were no injuries.

Police found two local teens, aged 13 and 16 who were arrested and charged with cause bushfire being recklessly indifferent.

They were bailed to appear at the Port Lincoln Youth Court in January.
