Australia’s late, lamented car industry produced some truly great cars — but don’t think there weren’t awful decisions down the years too.

Car-making is a complex business. It’s controlled by big-thinkers yet it answers to the shareholders.
Politically, it can be everything from a poll-swinging vote-grabber to a whipping boy, and the products it contributes are among the most complex machines made.
And then they’re sold to humans who may or may not have the first idea on how to operate them. Is it any wonder things go wrong?
Australia no longer makes cars, but we did, and like any car-making nation, we managed some truly wonderful creations and concepts.
But we also contributed our share of clangers.
Politics, engineering, concepts and the cars themselves all feature heavily on this ignominious list.
And like any bloopers reel, it’s difficult to not stare.
So, in no particular order, may we present the 10 greatest car fails this country has ever produced.
