Tributes have started flowing for a young nurse who was killed and her friend who was injured when a speeding ex-cop crashed into their car in Brisbane yesterday.
Lily Galbraith, 24, was on her way to wedding with close friend Emma McLean, who was driving through the Legacy Way Tunnel in Queensland when an Audi, reportedly doing 200km/h, rammed into their vehicle, sending the two women crashing into a truck.
Ms Galbraith died at the scene while Ms McLean, who is from Adelaide, is in a critical condition at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Ms Galbraith, who was originally from Darwin but living in Adelaide, worked as a registered nurse at Flinders Private Hospital, according to her Facebook.
The driver, who has been identified as former cop Bruce Daley, also died at the scene.
On Thursday, the Nurses and Midwives Memorial Page Australia posted a tribute to the pair, paying condolences to Ms Galbraith’s loved ones and wishing Ms McLean “the very best”.
“Rest in Peace Lily. Thank you for your service. Condolences to your family and friends,” they wrote.
“All the very best for Emma and sending love to her family as they wait to see how her progress is.
“We are also thinking of the bride groom and any wedding guests also mourning.”
Ms McLean also recently got engaged to her partner, receiving dozens of well-wishes on social media.
The Courier Mail reports that witnesses said former police officer Bruce Daley stopped his black Audi at the entrance of the tunnel and started revving his engine.
It’s understood he reached about 200km/h before slamming into the back of the car carrying the young women.
Mr Daley, who was medically retired from the Queensland Police Service in December 2014, had made a series of haunting social media posts over a number of years.
