The two teenage pitch invaders are expected to escape without police punishment for their antics during Saturday night’s blockbuster Showdown between Port Adelaide and the Adelaide Crows.
The pair, aged 14 and 15, ran onto the field in front of a packed stadium, eliciting shouts from the crowd as they were tackled by security guards.
The boys, one wearing Port Adelaide colours, were close to the middle of the oval before five security guards caught up with them.
One of the boys was carried out by three members of security, while the other was escorted off the oval by two security staff.
A South Australian Police spokeswoman said the boys would not be charged and may be given a verbal warning for their on-field antics but their actions did not reflect the general behaviour of the crowd.
Adelaide Oval pitch invaders can face a SAPOL fine of up to $5000.
“Most people were well behaved,” the spokeswoman said.
There were no arrests during the event.
Adelaide Oval increased the minimum venue ban for pitch invaders from three months to 12 in 2017.
“Anyone arrested for entering the playing arena faces a minimum three-year ban from entering the stadium,” an Adelaide Oval spokesperson said.
“As such, these individuals will now be banned from the stadium in addition to any other penalties issued by SAPOL or the courts.
“Adelaide Oval takes a zero-tolerance approach to any behaviour that threatens the safety of players, officials or spectators.”
