SEVEN NEWS: Pitch invader embarrasses Adelaide Oval security

THE man who ran on to Adelaide Oval during Sunday’s Showdown has been slapped with a 12-month ban from the venue after stadium management upped the minimum penalty.

Port Adelaide supporter Jeremy Cortvriend downed six pints of beer before he decided to run on to the playing surface in the third quarter of the Power’s record 84-point Showdown loss to the Crows.

Cortvriend, 29, of Parafield Gardens, ran halfway across the oval before he was stopped by security guards and escorted from the ground.

The Stadium Management Authority on Wednesday announced that it was cracking down further on pitch invaders, increasing the minimum venue ban from three months to 12.

“Following Sunday’s incident and subsequent police action, the Adelaide Oval SMA has introduced a minimum 12-month ban for any patrons who run on to the field of play,” a spokeswoman said.

“This ban is in addition to any SAPOL issued ban and/or fine and is independent of any other penalties imposed.

“The 12-month ‘pitch invasion’ ban commences with immediate effect and has been applied in the case of the individual arrested during Sunday’s game.”

Cortvriend will appear in court next month where he faces being slapped with a fine up to $5000.
