A teenage boy has been flown to hospital after his car ploughed down an embankment on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

About 1pm Saturday police and emergency services were called to Randell Road on Hindmarsh Island to reports a car had collided with a Stobie pole before plunging down the embankment.

Crews discovered a 17-year-old Seaford driver trapped in the vehicle, and emergency services officers had to cut the boy free of the wreckage.

The teen was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was flown to the Flinders Medical Centre via helicopter with non life-threatening injuries.

Last month a similar incident unfolded in Adelaide’s southern suburbs.

An elderly woman escaped serious injury after her Mazda 4WD rammed into the side of a home in Sheidow Park.

No one was home at the time of the accident.

The woman in her 70s was able to free herself from the car and she was transported to the Flinders Medical Centre with back pain.

The dog she was travelling with was given a ride home in an ambulance.
