Waking up next to his wife, spending mornings playing with his children and a commitment to state politics will keep Peter Malinauskas in South Australia forever.

At FIVEAA’s gala dinner to celebrate the best of the state, the Premier ruled out moving to federal politics and Parliament House in Canberra instead staying in the “coal face” of state politics.

“Never ever,” Mr Malinauskas told breakfast hosts David Penberthy and Will Goodings at Adelaide Oval on Friday night in front of hundreds of business leaders and FIVEAA listeners.

He said “Canberra has a different feel” and he preferred being on the “coal face” affecting the state.

He was also imbued with optimism the next decade for South Australia would be better than the last, which began with the closure of Holden.

On the home front he said it was a joy to be able to go to work as Premier and be close to home and time spent with his four children with wife Annabel.

“That matters, wake up in the same bed as my wife, see the kids tomorrow morning,” he said.

“I will leave tonight and be home in five minutes.”

The premier has faced questions about his future aspirations and a tilt at federal politics with buzz last month about his strong performance, bold agenda-setting and personal political appeal.
