Cafe de Vili’s in Elizabeth has brought a wave of sadness to its community after it announced its decision to close their doors for good.
On Thursday, the northern suburbs community went into uproar on Facebook after someone posted a photo of the shop’s front door which displayed a makeshift sign.
“Company in liquidation + ceased trading,” it read.
A Cafe de Vili’s spokesman confirmed the closure.
“Café De Vili's (franchisor) and Vili's Family Bakery are aware that the company that independently owned and operated Café De Vili’s Elizabeth franchise is in liquidation and has ceased trading,” he told The Advertiser.
After the news broke on Facebook – South Aussies voiced their disappointment.
Heather N Ian Brooks wrote: “There goes the last of the pie floater outlets. Old Villi would be turning in his grave.”
Meanwhile Annie Stephens said: “Nooo. They have the best bacon and egg toasties. I feel so sorry for all the lovely workers there.”
Other people share their sadness in needing to find “another place to catch up” now.
This comes after The Advertiser revealed that the Cafe de Vili’s at Blair Athol will remain open after the parent company stepped in to take over from a franchisee.
There had been fears it would shut after the franchisee put a sign outside the business saying it had ceased trading. However, a spokesman for Vili’s said management had taken over to avoid the outlet going into administration.
