Winds of up to 90km/h have lashed the state, leaving damage and busy night for emergency services.

The State Emergency Service received 89 call-outs from Saturday morning to Sunday so far.

Most of the incidents were trees down, mainly concentrated in Adelaide but also regional areas including the Fleurieu Peninsula.

On Saturday, a damaging wind warning was initially issued across South Australia, with wind gusts predicted to exceed 90km/h, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The BOM calculated the winds to average 55km/h to 65km/h but the stronger winds are to be in excess of 90km/h which are likely developing in the ridges and the western slopes of Mount Lofty Ranges throughout Saturday.

A severe weather warning for the state was cancelled on Sunday morning for people residing in the Adelaide metropolitan area, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula and Kangaroo Island. Conditions are forecast to ease throughout the day.

Some residents have already felt the impact of the strong winds in irreparable ways.

A 29-year-old woman from Quorn, Zoe – who didn’t want her surname published – was in her house as the roof was ripped off by the wind.

Zoe said the wind started about 4pm Friday and she heard the strong gust of wind attack her metal roof.

“There’s whirly winds noises here all the time so I didn’t think too much of it at first but then I look out the window and there’s this big wall of dust coming.” she said.

“The wind came off the creek and it hit the front of the house and then I could just hear all this metal ripping and came out and there is light streaming through the kitchen.

“It was like a freight train coming through and it took about 10 seconds and now I don’t have a roof anymore.”

“The SES arrived Saturday morning but I have some things to figure out, I need to find somewhere else to go.”

The BOM said the winds would continue until Sunday morning.
