A 38-year-old Riverland man has died after rolling his ute in a fiery crash near Truro on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to a report of a vehicle rollover on Truro Road, between Hawker Hill Road and St Kitts West Road, about 11.45am on Friday.

The ute burst into flames, and, despite the efforts of witnesses and emergency services, the driver could not be saved.

The man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.

His death is the 48th life lost on South Australian roads so far this year, and police are pleading with drivers to take extra care.

SA Police Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott has pleaded for drivers to take care on the roads after the shocking run of crashes, imploring road users to drive to the conditions as wild weather lashes the state this weekend.

“The five crashes that we’ve had in the past 36 hours are not related specifically and there will be different factors that are at play,” he said.

“But one thing that is consistent is that paying attention to the road, sticking to the speed limit and driving in a safe way are all part of the preliminary investigation for a number of these crashes.

“These five crashes are a stark reminder of how quickly your life can change, either as a result of your behaviour behind the wheel or another person’s behaviour behind the wheel.”

Earlier on Friday, a young man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital following a crash at Christie Downs.

On Friday just before 4am, emergency services were called to Flaxmill Road after reports a black BMW had lost control and crossed the centre island.

The vehicle then crashed into a tree on the east-bound side of the road.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from O’Halloran Hill, sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Major Crash officers will investigate the crash.

It comes after Major Crash Investigators went to the scene of three other horrific crashes across the state on Thursday.
