The Advertiser/7NEWS Adelaide update: Man dies in Kangaroo Island crash

A man allegedly riding a tractor with no lights has been arrested and charged over a fatal crash that left an elderly man dead at Kangaroo Island this week.

A Parndana man, 79, was driving his Mitsubishi van along the Playford Highway near Bar Hut Rd about 7.30pm Wednesday when he lost control and the car rolled and crashed.

The victim died at the scene.

Following an appeal for witnesses, Major Crash detectives concluded the driver had allegedly swerved to avoid a tractor they say was being driven without lights on Bark Hut Rd.

Officers arrested the alleged tractor driver on Thursday, a Kangaroo Island man, 49, and charged him with causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated driving without due care.

He was bailed to appear in the Kingscote Magistrates Court in May.

Investigators are still appealing for information from anyone who may have seen the tractor being drive on Hog Bay Rd, Penneshaw or the Playford Highway towards Parndana on Wednesday night.

The man’s death is the 24th life lost on the state’s roads, compared to 37 at the same time last year.

It follows a tragic fatal crash on Kangaroo Island earlier this month that cost the life of Mitchell Clark, 27.

Mr Clark was driving along Christmas St near Penneshaw on April 5 when his truck crashed down an embankment and flipped on to rocks.

The local man died at the scene.

Meanwhile, a man has suffered serious injuries after becoming trapped in a truck crash at Burra.

The truck rolled on Copperhouse Rd near the Barrier Highway about 11.20am Thursday.

The driver was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after becoming trapped in the front cab of the truck.

The road was closed on Thursday morning and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
