Sellicks Beach medical centre, shops planned for $25m, 6ha housing estate

Plans have been lodged for a new medical centre and commercial shopping strip beside a 6ha residential estate in Adelaide’s south.

A medical clinic and retail shops would be built at Sellicks Beach under a multimillion-dollar project to support a nearby $25m housing division.

The plans, which also include a separate building for supported accommodation and carparking, are now open for public consultation.

Work started in May on Citify’s 42-home residential estate called Sellicks Living Development along Justs Rd, while a childcare centre has also been proposed to support the development.

Under new plans the developers lodged last month, they would also construct a single-storey retail building to house four small-scale businesses such as a convenience store, restaurant, cafe or grocers near the housing estate.

The shopping strip would be built alongside a medical centre with six consulting rooms – and 44 carparks for the two buildings.

The plans include a third, double-storey building – 15 supported accommodation apartments with 27 beds behind the medical centre and shops, with their own carparks.

The approved 6ha housing subdivision, with blocks ranging from 850 sqm to 1050 sqm, will be built behind the supported accommodation apartments.

The planning documents say the buildings reflect existing heights in the area.

Citify managing director Joel Wilkinson said Citify had prior experience in supported accommodation, having delivered such facilities in two previous mixed-use development projects.

“We identified a shortage of supported accommodation in the southern suburbs and a lack of existing amenity and shops for residents in Sellicks Beach,” Mr Wilkinson said. “This prompted us to incorporate these elements into the Sellicks Living Development.”

He said work on the subdivision for the housing estate had started in May and was progressing well.

He anticipated subdivision work would be finished by December if it went smoothly.

“Once we had a clear vision of the types of amenities we wanted to include in the development, we organised a community consultation evening.

“This event allowed the local community to come together and share their thoughts and ideas about the type of amenity and small-scale shops they would like to see come out of the proposal.

“We were excited and thankful to have received constructive and positive feedback overall, and we are excited to move forward with this project.”
