Sellicks Beach community divided over proposed childcare centre

A proposed childcare facility in Sellicks Beach has been met with mixed reactions with one local saying their town was “over”. See the plans.

The southern suburbs could soon see a new childcare facility, but the proposed centre has divided the local community.

Citify Group Pty Ltd lodged an application to PlanSA for a single-storey childcare centre on Justs Rd, Sellicks Beach.

The facility will accomodate up to 98 children, featuring six indoor and three shared outdoor play areas.

Local residents took to a southern suburbs social media group to express their opinion about the new development, with some opposing the proposed centre while others believing it will benefit the local community.

“Yep, here we go, Sellicks is over. Just another suburb now. It was good while it lasted,” one member wrote.

“They seem to be packing a lot on to that land, houses now, childcare centre, wonder what they’ll come up with next!,” said another member.

However, others within the group supported the development.

“People do studies before they commit to such a huge expense to ensure their business will prosper, if there weren’t enough kids in the area to use this facility then it wouldn’t be built,” one member wrote.

“I’m sure there are plenty of working families that will benefit from a childcare centre close to home,” another member added.

“Finally some progress, with any luck it will encourage better sewerage, better footpaths, better roads and even shops. It will be great for the community.”
