Body of missing fisherman found after search at Innes National Park on the Yorke Peninsula

A 20-year-old man has drowned after falling off rocks while fishing at Browns Beach on Yorke Peninsula.

A 20-year-old man has drowned after falling off rocks while fishing at Browns Beach on Yorke Peninsula.

It is the fourth drowning tragedy in South Australian waters in less than a month.

The Parafield Gardens man, 20, was fishing at the Innes National Park beach when he fell into the ocean and was swept out to sea about 12.30pm on Saturday.

Members of the public who witnessed the man’s disappearance alerted authorities to the missing man.

Emergency services crews with help from national parks officers and recreational and commercial fishermen searched the area.

The police helicopter was also deployed and, just after 2.30pm, the man’s body was found in the water.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and a report will be prepared for the State Coroner.

Browns Beach is one of the most isolated areas of the national park but is a favourite for fishing.

Hundreds of tracks could be seen on the sand where the search took place.

The beach, which is renowned for salmon fishing with locals and tourists using a shelf of rocks in the middle of the beach as a launching point. was empty by 6.30pm.

A pair of fisherman from Maitland said the beach was not known to be dangerous.

The family of the drowned man is believed to have been escorted by police out of Innes Park to accompany the body.

The man’s death is the fourth drowning in SA since December 23 and the second in less than a week.

Thursday, December 27: Disability carer Nischal Ghimire drowned off Glenelg while on a trip to the beach with a severely disabled boy. The alarm was raised when the distressed boy knocked on the door of local residents, but was unable to communicate what had happened. The body of Mr Ghimire, 22, who was from Nepal, was found the following day.

Tuesday, January 15: Victorian teenager Arash Yari went missing in the surf off Parsons Beach on the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is thought the 17-year-old was caught in a rip and swept out to sea. The Afghani immigrant’s body was recovered on Friday.
