Cats await AFL call on latest Ablett hit

Gabriel Polychronis

Geelong have been debating for a few weeks when to give Gary Ablett a rest, but AFL match review officer Michael Christian might just take the decision out of their hands.

Ablett's right-arm jab to the jaw of Gold Coast's Anthony Miles has been dissected at length since the two-time Brownlow Medal winner's rush of blood in the Cats' win at Metricon Stadium.

It continued an out-of-character run for the 35-year-old after he escaped suspension for much-debated high hits on Essendon's Dylan Shiel and North Melbourne's Sam Wright.

Traditional owners fight Adani agreement

Gabriel Polychronis

A group of traditional owners opposed to Adani's Queensland coal mine on their land will again try to convince a court their indigenous land use agreement with the mining giant is invalid.

The Federal Court in Brisbane last year rejected the Wangan and Jagalingou people's objections over the agreement, which largely centred around whether details about the extinguishment of native title were specific enough.

Lawyers for the group will appeal that decision today, just days after Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk set a mid-June deadline for the completion of two outstanding state approvals for the controversial mine in the Galilee Basin.
