A runaway goat has wrecked havoc on a Kapunda home, breaking a window and causing significant damage inside, a homeowner says.

A homeowner reported to the Light Regional Council that a goat was wandering on Clare Road and was seen earlier on the Swann walking path.

Maggie Bosankoe said she was working at home in her kitchen, when she took a break and noticed a goat running in her yard. The main gate to the street was closed, where it would usually be open.

Her first response was to ring the vet, but it was closed.

“We rang the council who said the police were the ones to shut the gate and were investigating the goat’s owner. The council said they couldn’t do anything to help us because ‘they are dog catchers, not a goat catcher’,” Ms Bosankoe said.

After calling the council, Ms Bosankoe said the goat jumped through the lounge room window and broke it, then took off.

Luckily, Ms Bosankoe was insured and some tradesmen were able to fit a board on the window to stop wind and rain.

“God blessed us, my kids usually play Lego next to that window. My son was at school and my daughter just got to her bedroom to take a nap...she could of been hurt badly,” she said.

In a Facebook post, Maggie Bosankoe (whose Facebook name is Truong Thi Kieu Loan) shared photos of the damage she claimed was caused by goat’s carnage.

She said it broke a lounge room window, shattering the glass and appears to have destroyed toys inside the home.

“He jumped the fence, gone as suddenly as come, left us damage. Goat is in our yard, anyone is missing her/him?” the post read.

The council wrote in a post on Facebook that police advise the goat is now enclosed in 43 Mildred Street, but it is not known who owns the animal.

“Council does not have any equipment or facilities to deal with a goat. Council seeks the assistance of the public for information as to the owner of the goat so it may be returned home,” the post said.

Another commenter said the goat “escaped from the stock market” earlier on Thursday.

“He sure has done laps of the town, he was spotted at the oval earlier today,” wrote Naomi Wood.
