Road resurfacing program to begin, bringing short term delays but long term safety

Motorists have been warned of a plethora of road resurfacing works which will slow traffic in the next month, but fix dodgy surfaces for the long term.

Some of SA’s most dodgy road surfaces will be renewed by $12.3m resurfacing works which begin this month.

Federal Infrastructure Minister Michael McCormack revealed the city roadwork locations were Cormack Rd at Wingfield, Victoria Rd at Taperoo, Montague Rd at Cavan and Glen Osmond Road at Eastwood.

“In addition state and federal governments are partnering to deliver vital works on the Princes Highway near Murray Bridge and on Port Wakefield Road near Dublin and Windsor, supporting regional freight and community access,” he said.

“The Australian Government is investing in these types of works nationwide as part of our $110b infrastructure investment plan, which is laying the foundations for economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.”

SA Infrastructure Minister Corey Wingard said the works were jointly funded by the State Government.

“Road resurfacing might not be sexy but it’s a welcome sugar hit for the construction industry with the creation of jobs right now,’’ he said.

“The former Labor Government left us with a $750 million backlog in road maintenance across South Australia and we’re working hard to chip away at that list.

“These works form part of our record $16.7b investment in infrastructure across the state and will help to deliver a smoother and safer ride for South Australian motorists.”

Motorists should beware detours and lane closures will operate on 1.2km of Glen Osmond Rd between Fullarton Rd and Greenhill Rd until mid-February, between 8pm and 6am, Sunday to Friday. No works will be undertaken from 24 to 30 January.

Resurfacing of the eastbound traffic lanes on Montague Rd between Cross Keys Rd and Main North Rd, Cavan will continue until late January.

The majority of works there will be undertaken between 7pm and 6am, Sunday through Thursday, to ensure the safety of road users and to complete the work efficiently.

On Cormack Rd 1.2km of resurfacing will be undertaken between South Rd and Churchill Rd North to be completed by the end of February.

Resurfacing of the southbound traffic lanes on Victoria Rd will be undertaken between

Hamilton Ave and Willochra St, until mid-February.

The majority of works on Cormack and Victoria Rds will be undertaken Monday to Friday between 6pm and 6am.

Port Wakefield Road will have 6.4km resurfaced near Dublin and Windsor, from late January to the end of February.

Speed and lane restrictions will be in place in the vicinity of the works and motorists are advised to take care when driving through the area, follow the direction of traffic management staff on site and observe signage.
