Traffic will be restricted from today as workers lay the final asphalt for the Darlington Upgrade project.
Works will begin at 8pm tonight and finish on November 30 – with temporary lane closures and traffic restrictions in place on South Road and the lowered motorway at varying times. Motorists are urged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
Workers will be laying the final asphalt and marking lines, which form the final part of the Darlington Upgrade project.
Once works are complete, speed restrictions will remain in place on the newly resurfaced section for about six weeks.
This will enable excess bitumen to be worn to a safe level prior to the posted speed limit being reinstated, the transport department said.
The final coat of line marking is expected to be done in early 2021.
Meanwhile, the Transport Department is installing new signage at the $754.5 million Darlington Interchange in a bid to make the ins and outs of the roadway clearer.
