Reality TV star Stacey Hampton has spoken out following the death of her former fiance and Rebels bikie boss in Adelaide.
The incident happened on Milne Rd, Redwood Park, just after 3am Wednesday.
Senior Rebels bikie Shane Smith, of Redwood Park, 38, died at the scene while his pillion passenger, a Clearview man, 45, was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr Smith was a dad-of-four and boxing instructor who was also the former partner of Married At First Sight favourite Stacey Hampton. He is the father of Ms Hampton’s two young sons.
Ms Hampton, who appeared on the popular reality TV show in 2020 and also lost her brother in a motorcycle crash in 2015, told Nine News that the bikie boss was an “amazing father”.
“He is now at peace with his brother, mother and friends,” she said.
“He was an amazing father. He adored his children and his parents.
“Our hearts are broken, and our lives will never be the same. He had a heart of gold and adored his family and friends.”
Ms Hampton, 27 started going out with Mr Smith when she was 19 and they split in 2017, just before his conviction for bashing two nightclub security guards.
Ms Hampton shared how the couple met in an interview with WHO magazine in 2020.
“I met him when I was really young – 19 – through mutual friends and I wasn’t aware of his lifestyle but I fell for him so quickly,” she said.
“He treated me so nicely, he was beautiful, loving, and I fell pregnant really quickly to him with our first son.
“At the time, I didn’t realise he actually had charges from ages ago that had come up – assault charges.
“I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I stood by him when he ended up going to jail while I was pregnant, and then my brother died (in a motorbike crash) the day my son was born.
“But Shane rang me every hour to make sure I was OK. He had his friends checking in on me. He’s honestly the greatest person … and I think he’s really ashamed of his past.”
Major Crash investigators were examining the scene on Wednesday morning, where Milne Rd was partially closed between Golden Grove Rd and McEwin Rd.
The restrictions were removed later on Wednesday morning.
The Rebels MC Malta Facebook page paid a tribute to Mr Smith on Facebook.
“Today marks another dark day for our club, we’re all in disbelief of the pass of our Brother Shane,” the post wrote.
“Our sincerest condolences to our brothers in Adelaide, Shane’s immediate family especially his four beautiful children.
“Another brother taken too soon, you will be greatly missed and never forgotten.”
One man remembered him as “a true Rebel soldier”.
In January 2021, Mr Smith received home detention for meeting with criminal organisation participants at a Golden Grove pub, and pleaded guilty in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court to being present with two or more criminal organisation participants.
He met with Lavi Junior Fono, 28, of Walkley Heights and Scott Aaron Willis, 33, of Mawson Lakes, at the Village Tavern at Golden Grove on January 19, 2020.
Fono and Willis also pleaded guilty to the same offence.
The court heard he and the two other men were caught on CCTV watching a martial arts fight on TV and drinking beers.
It follows the sudden death of Bradley Daniele, another Rebels bikie, last week. The 29-year-old is understood to have died from a heart attack in hospital.
Daniele made headlines for bashing a sex offender in prison before posting the vision online.
Mr Smith’s death was the 52nd life lost so far this year compared with 66 at the same time last year.
It has been a horror week on the state’s roads, with two other people killed, including a 21-year-old pedestrian.
Jayden McKay was attending his friends’ baby shower, which ended in tragedy when he was hit and killed at Aldinga Beach.
Another man aged 46, of Risdon Park at Port Pirie died after crashing his Toyota station wagon into a tree on the Augusta Highway at Lochiel in the Mid North on Sunday morning.
