A ram raid on a suspected drug den left SA Police officers baffled after realising they had pounced on the wrong home.
Last Thursday, STAR Group and Serious and Organised Crime Branch officers drove through the front gate of a Seaton home, breaking through the front door in search of an illegal cannabis haul.
However, they found no drugs at the property and the house next door was then determined to be the correct location.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said officers seized 52 cannabis plants and hydroponic equipment during the raid, along with other liquids that are being analysed.
They also described it as a “sophisticated grow house” although no arrests have been made yet.
“Prior to the search of the house where cannabis was located, police attended a neighbouring address, forcing entry under the authority of a general search warrant,” the spokesperson said.
“During this process, there was damage to the front gate, the front door and an internal door.
“South Australia Police is working with the resident of this home to ensure the gate and doors are repaired.”
The owners of the wrongly identified house told 7NEWS Adelaide they were grateful they weren’t home at the time of the raid.
They said they will have to take time off work to manage access for tradespeople who are conducting repairs on the property.
