Myer Centre, Adelaide will open on Thursday following “unforeseen” horror incident

The Myer Centre in Rundle Mall has resumed regular operations after a person plunged multiple storeys within the centre on Wednesday morning.

The Myer Centre in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall has resumed regular operations after a person plunged multiple storeys within the centre on Wednesday morning.

In a statement released by management on Wednesday evening, the centre said they co-operating with authorities.

“Support and counselling services have also been made available to those who need

it,” the statement said.

“The welfare and safety of our customers, retail partners and people remain our

priority.”

The shopping centre will reopen on Thursday at 9am.

Police and ambulance attended the scene around 9.30am on Wednesday and parts of Rundle Mall were blocked off by emergency services.

The MFS, police and ambulance services were all in attendance and a cherry picker was seen entering the building to retrieve the person.

It is believed the person was being retrieved from a safety net in the centre atrium.

“Please be advised the Myer Centre Adelaide will be closed today, Wednesday 18 January 2023 due to unforeseen circumstances,” a sign at the main entrance read.

“We will advise on reopening times via our social media channels.

“We apologise for any convenience and thank you for your understanding.”

Harpreet Singh, who works at Urban Street Gear in the centre, said everyone had been evacuated and locked out of the building.

Myer employee Georgia Scott-Riley was walking into work when she saw the commotion.

“I couldn’t see that far ahead as I was just walking into work,” she said.

Employees who work in the Myer Centre as well and patrons have been evacuated and are waiting outside for the all clear.

The circumstances that led to the fall are not known at this stage, but it is not believed to be suspicious.
