Police ‘appalled’ as meth driver caught with kids in car

A Hills man will face drug driving charges after being caught driving on meth twice in one day — once with young children in the car.

Life as a $1200-a-week ice addict

A man allegedly driving on meth with two young children in his car will be charged with drug driving twice in one day.

The 49-year-old Adelaide Hills man tested positive to methamphetamine at 9am on Monday after police stopped the Mitsubishi station wagon he was driving on Flaxmill Road, Mt Barker, SAPOL says.

Just hours later police spotted the same man driving erratically on the Princes Freeway at Littlehampton, this time with a three-year-old and a six-year-old on-board.

Police said he returned a second positive drug test.

He was given a second direction not to drive for 24 hours and will face drug driving charges pending forensic analysis of Monday’s drug tests.

Hills Fleurieu Police said they were appalled.

“SAPOL has just commenced Operation High Impact F5 with the strong message not to drink or drug drive, yet here we have an example of a person willing to not only put their own life and their children’s lives in danger but also the lives of other road users,” Hills Fleurieu Local Service Area acting officer in charge Inspector Glen Sickerdick said.

It came as police revealed another man also tested positive to drugs after being caught speeding at Highbury yesterday.

The 26-year-old driver from Greenwith was fined $1,538 for speeding and drivingt unlicensed, while also allegedly returning a positive methamphetamine test.

He may also faced further charges following analysis of the drug test.
