Pumpkin the pig – found wandering the streets of the western suburbs last month – has secured his forever home on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The red and white, six month old boar was spotted in Flinders Park last month, before being taken to the RSPCA shelter in Lonsdale.
Brittany Vogelsang was on the RSPCA’s website looking for some geese for her 15-acre Milang property when she spied Pumpkin.
“I just saw this cute little Ranga on the website and thought I had to meet him,” she said.
Mrs Vogelsang said it was love at first sight and there was no way she was not taking Pumpkin home.
“When I was 10 years old my mum bought me a pet pig and she was convinced it was going to be a miniature – of course we ended up with a 300 kilogram boar. But I loved being able to grow up around pigs, they’ve got such great personalities,” she said.
Pumpkin is set to live the high life in his new home, after being fitted for a walking harness at Aldinga and taking a trip to the football at Strathalbyn in his first two days on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The cute boar will be joining Mrs Vogelsang’s other pets on the property – an 11-year-old ex-racehorse and two miniature Shetland ponies.
Mrs Vogelsang has a pig sty on her property for Pumpkin, but she also has a back up plan if he grows too large – with another family member nearby in Milang having an even larger sty if Pumpkin gets too porky.
