Pumpkin the pig, found wandering in Adelaide’s suburbs, needs a home

Are you Pumpkin’s new family? This super-friendly, six-month-old pig was found wandering in Adelaide’s west last week, and his owners can’t be found.

Pumpkin the pig can walk on a lead “almost better than a dog” and loves being with people.

Now, the friendly little six-month-old – who was found wandering the streets in a western suburb last month – is looking for a family to love him.

“Somewhere he can live many happy piggy years,” says Rozanna Henshaw, an animal care officer at RSPCA Lonsdale, where Pumpkin has lived for the past few weeks.

“He’s wonderful; he never fails to make us smile.

“He’s part of the family, really, so we feel like he’s always been part of our lives.”

Pumpkin – who was named even before RSPCA officers realised it was his favourite food – was spotted in Flinders Park last month.

“He would do almost anything for a piece of pumpkin,” Ms Henshaw says.

“Unfortunately, his owners haven’t come forward.

“We’re looking for someone with acreage because he's not suitable for a backyard.”

The playful pig walks on a lead around the shelter, “almost better than the dogs”, and loves peanut butter, Ms Henshaw said.

Pumpkin’s new owner would need council permission and a property identification code through PIRSA for disease control purposes.
