Titanium Security Arena will undergo a $20m redevelopment and rebranding as part of a plan to provide “greater access to grassroots sports”.
Developer and stadium owner Pelligra released new concept images of its plans for the Findon site, which includes three indoor basketball and netball courts, an amenities block and disability access.
Outdoors, there would be a three-on-three basketball court superdome and show court, eight three-on-three courts that can be used for netball, and four volleyball courts.
There also would be a high-performance gymnasium, to be run as a Derrimut 24:7 Gym, including a purpose-built gym equipment for tall athletes, free off-street carparking and green space.
The entire complex will be rebranded Adelaide 36ers Arena early next year.
Pelligra general manager Steve Wren said the company intended to create a “generational sports precinct for the benefit of all”.
“We do feel that our proposed redevelopment at the Adelaide 36ers Arena and increasing our internal and external courts up to 14 in total – as well as the fact that our arena can seat 8000 people – will contribute significantly to providing greater access to grassroots sport, as well as the potential for national competitions in the future,” Mr Wren said.
The 36ers would continue to play games at the Entertainment Centre but would train at the arena.
This month, Charles Sturt Council agreed to consult the community about selling 10 per cent of adjacent Toogood Reserve – or about 5730sq m – to Pelligra for $30,000 to allow for the redevelopment.
It would lease the remaining 90 per cent to Pelligra for $1, however, the company would pick up the maintenance bill.
The council planned to make a final decision on the sale and lease in April.
The redevelopment would also become a home base for Garville Netball Club, which currently trains at Netball SA Stadium in Mile End.
The general public would still have access to Toogood Reserve outside of organised sport time.
Garville president Lucy Portaro and Charles Sturt mayor Angela Evans were contacted for comment.
