THE Adelaide Central Market will have an interim boss from today.

Senior executive Paul Thorne will join departing Market Authority General Manager Aaron Brumby for a time of handover.

Mr Thorne, linked with leading South Australian organisations such as ECH, has had 18 years of local government experience with the City of Adelaide.

Adelaide Central Market Authority chairman Nicholas Begakis said Mr Thorne possessed the operational and customer skills necessary “to carry on from what has been a highly successful period under the leadership of Mr Brumby”.

“This has been an era of milestones and change for the Market. With the approval of the 2018-2022 Strategic Plan and capital works projects, the upcoming period will be critical,” Mr Begakis said.

The chairman predicted the process of recruiting a new general manager would take “some months”.

Mr Brumby, who took on the job three and a half years ago, after a tumultuous period of frequent management changes.

With Mr Begakis and the board, he has stewarded the market to major improvements and a modern balance of food stalls. Mr Brumby resigned three weeks ago, and will next month take on the role of chief operating officer at the Bedford Group.
