Parkwynd Private Hospital on East Terrace will shut on April 9, with 103 jobs to be lost

An Adelaide CBD private hospital today announced it would close as of April – leaving its 103 employees out of a job.

How safe is your public hospital?

A private hospital operating in Adelaide’s CBD will close its doors in coming months, leaving more than 100 people working at the facility uncertain about their job.

Healthscope, the company that operates Parkwynd Private Hospital on East Terrace announced on Wednesday to shut the doors to the facility, which is 106 years old.

The facility currently has 103 employees.

A recent review identified major works were required on the site, which were not financially or logistically appropriate.

State manager for Healthscope SA, Paul Evans, said it was an extremely difficult and sad day to announce the closure of Parkwynd.

“The investment required to keep operating and continue to meet accreditation standards is not viable or sustainable,” Mr Evans said.

He said the decision does not reflect the high skill and dedication of staff.

“We looked in detail at opportunities to repurpose Parkwynd Private Hospital and keep the facility operating in another capacity but none of these options have proven viable.”

Healthscope will assist staff in redeployment opportunities.

Patients will be contacted regarding the continuity of care, and suitable arrangements for future treatment at other facilities will be made.

The 23-bed facility will close on April 9.
