A patched Comanchero has been arrested on multiple charges over an alleged shooting at Hindmarsh that left a man in hospital three years ago.

Thursday’s arrest came as part of the ongoing Operation Ironside investigation, involving serious and organised crime branch police reviewing communications on the AN0M encrypted app.

The shooting occurred on September 16, 2019, when a man was shot in the leg while inside a vehicle parked at a Hindmarsh business.

The victim was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound and head injuries.

The car involved in the incident was stolen, and later recovered by police in Bowden.

Police allege the suspect fled to Thailand the following day, and was arrested on April 8, 2020, but the victim withdrew the charges in September of that year.

On Thursday, the 40-year-old Port Adelaide man was arrested and charged with causing serious harm with intent, causing serious harm, aggravated robbery and breach of a firearms prohibition order.

He was also charged with trafficking two firearms, breaching a firearms prohibition order and breaching bail. Police also allege the man trafficked the two firearms, a revolver and a rifle while on bail.

He was a fully patched member of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club, police said.

The man was refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.

Detective chief inspector Darren Fielke said police were continuing their Operation Ironside investigations.

“Today’s arrest is further evidence of how the ongoing Taskforce Ironside investigations are continuing to impact on those involved in serious organised crime,” he said.

“The review of the AN0M messaging will not stop and this arrest should send a message and a warning to all those who are involved in serious criminal behaviour and who used the AN0M encrypted platform that they will be held accountable for their actions.”
