A South Australian amateur golfer is set to swing clubs alongside some of the world’s best players in Thursday’s LIV Golf Pro-Am event.
Lucky golf fan and small business owner from Stonyfell, Pieter de Wit is set to replace Premier Peter Malinauskas who offered up his spot at the event.
The winner was chosen by The Advertiser in a fiercely competitive penalty shootout style best of five putt-off on Monday and will be paired up with one of the 48 professionals at the event.
Mr de Wit, 53, who plays off a handicap of 12, blew the competition out of the water as he sunk two putts out of a possible five.
He played it cool following his win and said he was only nervous “for the first few” putts.
Golf has been a life long passion for Mr de Wit who plays once a week at North Adelaide.
“I’ve been playing for most of my life but not well,” he said.
“Since I was a kid I’ve been hacking around the par three and I’m still hacking around.”
The amateur golfer is looking forward to seeing all of the professionals at the event but it’s the thought of teeing off with legend of the sport Phil Mickelson that gets him most excited.
“It would be ridiculous to see someone of that calibre and I’m looking forward to the vibe of LIV Golf.”
