A Paralowie High School student has reportedly been suspended for wearing a “highly offensive and inappropriate” Halloween costume.
7NEWS reported the student, believed to be in his senior years of education, attended campus on Monday morning wearing a white hood.
The costume was said to resemble clothing famously worn by American white supremacist group, the Ku Klux Klan.
Principal Peter McKay said the costume was reported before 9am and the boy was promptly suspended.
“The student was asked to change his clothing and surrender the costume. He refused and as a result he was suspended,” he told 7NEWS.
“A parent was contacted at 8.52am and advised of the decision and asked to collect the student from school.
“The student was advised that the costume was highly offensive and inappropriate.”
Mr McKay said the school “has no tolerance for racism”.
“As part of the normal process it is expected that before the student returns to school there will be a reconnection meeting which will provide an opportunity for a further educational discussion about the student’s behaviour.”
A member of the community supplied a photo of the costume who said the boy did not apologise to those offended by his actions.
