Halloween party allegedly gatecrashed by adults who threw glasses and punches

Windows were smashed and a child punched when a Halloween party was gatecrashed by “adults” fighting in the street – now the mother of the teen who hosted it says she’s horrified.

An out-of-control Halloween party in the northern suburbs was shut down on Saturday night after residents say it was infiltrated by adults from outside the area.

From about 9.50pm on Saturday, police received numerous calls from residents of Carnarvon Ave at Redwood Park, reporting teenagers causing a disturbance in the street, a police spokesman said.

Patrols attended and spoke to the occupants of the house in relation to noise and the behaviour of people at the party. There was a report of damage to a car parked in driveway on the street, with a rear tail light being broken.

No one has been charged with any offence at this time.

Sonia Blackwell moderates a community group on Facebook, in which multiple residents were complaining about the party.

She said “quite a lot” of people were involved in causing the trouble, most of whom were older “adult” teens who gatecrashed the party, which was meant for younger teenagers.

“We had quite a few people in the street concerned and reaching out … apparently there was a large group of people in the streets making a lot of noise and neighbours were concerned and posted about what’s going on,” Ms Blackwell said.

Ms Blackwell said a marquee and window were broken and there were reports of bottles being smashed and a child being punched.

Tamara Lee, whose daughter held the party, posted to the same Facebook group to apologise for what happened.

“I’m the parent of the teenager who had this party and we are devastated with how it turned out … yes, we expected some trouble but no way to this extent,” she wrote.

She said the invite-only party was shut down at 10pm due to gatecrashers.

“There were security measures in place but this particular group of thugs were out to destroy property and just cause trouble,” she said.

“The police were called at 10pm, arrived 10 mins later and did their best to move them all along but some decided to start throwing bottles at the cop cars and abuse the cops.

“Yes, an ambulance was also called for a girl who obviously took something she shouldn’t of but was eventually picked up by her mother, this particular girl wasn’t even invited to the party.

“Majority of the teenagers invited are not from this area and were actually from various private schools around Adelaide. However, the gatecrashers weren’t teenagers! They were grown adults!!

“Sadly those that did do the right thing ended up caught in a situation that they didn’t cause. I agree with those saying parents need to take responsibility for their kids, but it’s clear to me now after last night that many don’t and probably have no idea exactly what their kids get up to.”

Ms Lee said her family, who have lived in the area for more than 50 years, cleaned up the street after the party.

“We’re so thankful for our beautiful neighbours who offered help as well.

“Apologies to any other neighbours.”

One person commenting on Facebook said there were 50 people in the street “screaming and fighting”.

Education Minister Blair Boyer, who is also the local MP for the area, said on ABC radio on Monday morning that the situation “doesn’t sound good”.

“The gatecrashers weren’t teenagers, they were grown adults, which I guess is even more alarming,” Mr Boyer said.

A parent of one of the teenagers who attended the party said her daughter called her after her underage friend had been punched in the jaw by an adult.
