‘No sensation from waist down’: Husband’s update on wife’s heartbreaking condition

An Adelaide man aboard the Singapore Airlines flight that was hit with severe turbulence has provided an update on his wife’s serious condition.

A “fantastic holiday” came to a horrific end for an Adelaide man and his wife, after their Singapore Airlines flight hit severe turbulence – injuring them both and leaving her with “no sensation from her waist down”.

A British passenger died and more than 30 people were taken to hospital, seven with critical injuries, after Singapore Airlines Flight SQ321 experienced severe turbulence and plunged 6000ft, sending passengers crashing into the ceiling.

Keith Davis said his wife, Kerry Jordan, suffered a serious spinal injury aboard the flight and would need to be medevaced back to Adelaide and – after days of no contact – Singapore Airlines had finally reached out to the couple.

The 59-year-old landscape architect appeared on Channel 9’s Today Show on Friday morning, confirming the airline had met with him and assigned the couple with a dedicated resource to support the duo.

“Singapore Airlines reached out to us yesterday, we’ve been assigned a gentleman who is working just with us, a customer care guy,” Mr Davis said.

“And we had a meeting with the CEO who has flown in and that was really positive and it was just great to hear of their level of commitment in terms of our care.”

“Obviously you worry about insurance, the costs, and the medevac as well … It’s great that Singapore Airlines have come to the party and helping.”

The contact from Singapore Airlines came after Mr Davis told The Advertiser on Thursday he had not yet heard from the airline.

“I’ve been here three days, my wife is in the ICU, I have not had contact from Singapore airlines … nothing,” he said at the time.

“Where are you Singapore Airlines?”

In a statement to media, Singapore Airlines apologised to Mr Davis and Ms Jordan.

“Singapore Airlines apologises to Mr Keith Davis and his wife, and is providing them with the necessary support and assistance they need during this difficult time,” the airline said.

Mr Davis told The Advertiser the last thing he remembered seeing before hitting the ceiling of the cabin was his wife’s glass of water starting to vibrate.

“Instinctively, I reached out my hand over the water because I thought, sh*t that water is going to tip and then I was on the ceiling,” he said.

“But my wife bounced off of the luggage doors and landed in the aisle and that’s where she suffered a spinal injury.

“She was unable to move so she stayed there for the rest of the flight and I just tried to protect her while we landed in all the carnage.”

The couple were returning from their first holiday to the UK since Covid.
