Newsroom staff told to relocate or lose jobs amid Network 10 cuts

The embattled Network 10 is set to swing the axe again, hitting staff in its Adelaide office just weeks after scrapping The Project.

Network 10 is expected to slash jobs in its Adelaide newsroom, as part of wider cost-cutting measures felt across the country.

Staff from the struggling network were reportedly told today that two Adelaide production workers would be made redundant if they did not accept job offers in Sydney or Melbourne.

Similar moves have been made in other newsrooms across the country, with eight staff across Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth being offered redundancies if they did not accept the relocation offer.

It’s understood experienced video editors make up the bulk of job losses across the country.

The announcement comes just weeks after Ten cancelled The Project after 16 years and 4500 episodes.

The news and entertainment show will air for the last time on June 27, and will be replaced by a national one-hour 6pm bulletin.

The embattled station relaunched its revamped local bulletin in 2023, rolling out a presenter line up of Kate Freebairn, Max Burford and Tiff Warne.

An email seen by The Advertiser from Network Ten’s vice president of news Martin White said the decision was made to streamline workflows.

“As we continue to bolster our successful news offering, we are changing our media management and editing workflow around the states to ensure greater efficiency and alignment,” the email read.

“No local news gathering, journalism or presentation is impacted by this move in any way.”

Recent ratings show that Ten’s Sunday night news programs only received 342,000 viewers nationally, in comparison to Seven’s 1.5 million and Nine’s 1.4 million.
