Two experienced TV camera operators and a couple of rising young reporters have been let go by Channel 9 Adelaide as part of the network’s latest cost-cutting drive.
Nine’s longtime camera boss Mark Himsworth and Josh Wilsher, who had been with the station for almost 15 years, have been made redundant.
Popular Nine news journalist Michaela Komarek and sports reporter Emma Henderson have also been let go.
A TV source said the quartet were “beloved members” of the Nine Adelaide team and morale in the newsroom was “very, very low”.
“People are aware this is the media landscape but that doesn’t do anything for the mood in the office,” said the source.
It’s understood the departing members of the newsroom were told they had been made redundant over the past week, and have been given the option of staying until the end of the month.
In late June, it was announced Nine Entertainment would lay off 200 employees including about 40 from news and current affairs crews nationally.
It comes just weeks after Channel 7 and News Corp also revealed restructures across their businesses.
Adelaide’s commercial TV networks – Seven, Nine and Ten – are said to be trialling sharing vision filmed at press conferences, rather than each station sending out their own camera operators.
The Nine Network has been contacted for comment.
