Stacey Lee almost couldn’t believe it when she found out she was finally pregnant with her first child.
The FIVEaa radio host and husband Ben Millar had been trying to start a family for two years and Lee admitted it was taking longer than she expected.
“It was a huge surprise. Ben was super, super excited when we found out, I was more in shock,” said Lee, who’s due at the end of June.
“I thought, ‘Umm, we have to double check this. Let’s get a few more tests just to make sure’. I almost didn’t believe it after so long.
“I know there’s a lot of people struggling with fertility. We’re just really grateful to be here.”
Now there’s a combination of “nervousness and excitement” as the couple prepares to welcome a baby into the mix, alongside their beloved pet dog Murray.
“It’s getting really close. It’s feeling very real,” Lee said.
The afternoons host said she didn’t grow up wanting to become a mother but that all changed when she started dating Millar about ten years ago.
“It sounds really corny but when I met Ben I just knew I found the right person,” she said.
“Just knowing the baby would have a good father figure in their life, it really encouraged me to get on-board.”
The couple, who tied the knot about four years ago, are keeping the baby’s gender a surprise for everyone, including themselves.
But they’ve wasted no time trying to get acquainted with their soon-to-arrive bundle of joy.
“Ben’s been reading to the baby every night. I get to talk for three hours every day for my job so I feel like bubs is probably sick of my voice,” Lee laughed.
“But it’s been really special to read to the baby and hopefully the baby will recognise his voice when they arrive.”
Lee will finish up on-air at FIVEaa at the end of May, with Leith Forrest set to keep her seat warm for the rest of 2025. She’s expecting to return from maternity leave early in the new year.
“I’m such a workaholic, I feel like I won’t be able to help but stay across the news cycle,” she said.
“But they’re famous last words. Maybe I’ll forget who the Premier and the Opposition leader are by next year.
“My whole world is about to be turned upside down so I’m just looking forward to throwing myself into it.”
