Dhirren Singh Randhawa, the driver charged with killing Police Commissioner Grant Stevens’ son Charlie, has, it appears, stayed inside his mother’s Encounter Bay home after being granted bail.

Although his bail conditions do not impose detention restrictions, he has not been seen since returning to the home.

His mother Amreeta Stara was seen travelling to and from their Encounter Bay residence on Wednesday.

About 12.10pm on Wednesday, their white Audi jeep left the house with two people sitting in the front.

It was a short trip as Ms Stara returned around 12.40pm and was photographed exiting from the passenger side of the car before entering her house through the side gate.

Beside her was the driver, a man that has not been seen previously, and he followed Ms Stara into the house after locking the car.

Property records show the home, understood to be rented by Mr Randhawa’s mother Amreeta Stara, has three bedrooms and bathrooms, with ocean views from the rear of the home.

Neighbours say the family is generally quiet and keep to themselves – having never had an issue with the household.

Constance Inns, who has lived on the street for three years, described the family as hard working.

“They’re just a family who live quietly in the street,” she said.

“The kids come and go a bit, they have lights on, it’s a bright house, and the whole thing is just a tragedy.

“I hope that compassion is given to the lad and that his life too isn’t lost or wasted.”

Ms Inns also expressed sorrow for the Stevens family’s loss.

“They are a good family, a hardworking family; they do the gardening in their own house, they mind their own business and they’re just a pleasure to have in the street.

“They certainly don’t attract any untoward attention.”

Ms Inns said the incident had affected the entire Fleurieu Peninsula.

Mr Randhawa appeared at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The apprentice barber and Victor Harbor High School graduate is further charged with leaving the scene of a crash after causing death and failing to truly answer questions.

He is yet to plead to the charges.
