A mother who has engaged crisis PR as her son faces court charged over the alleged hit and run collision that killed Charlie Stevens – is an author and popular online figure.
Dhirren Randhawa, 18, of Encounter Bay, has yet to plead to causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated driving without due care over the crash at Schoolies on Friday night.
SA Police allege he was the P-plate driver behind the wheel of a 2011 Volkswagen Golf hatchback that struck Mr Stevens, 18, on Beach Road, Goolwa, about 9pm.
Mr Randhawa’s mother, Amreeta Stara, is a certified clinical hypnotherapist, psychotherapist and “transformational coach” with more than 22,000 followers on Instagram.
She is the author of the book Inner Essence and the journal Six Weeks to Alignment.
Mr Randhawa’s family has hired former Nine Network newsreader Georgina McGuinness to handle the media fallout and engaged barrister Jane Abbey, KC, to help with his legal case.
In a statement at the weekend, Ms Stara expressed her sorrow.
“I extend my deepest possible sympathies to the Stevens family and my heart is breaking to think of the suffering and pain they are experiencing,” she said.
“Out of respect and acknowledging that this is now a matter for the courts, I won’t be saying anything further at this time.”
An online bio on her website says Ms Stara has spent over a decade in the healing and coaching industry applying various modalities.
“Her approach evolved over the years, and she now applies an integrated approach through hypnotherapy and psychotherapy, combining ACT, mindfulness, and other specialised techniques to achieve deep transformation for effective, long-lasting results,” the bio reads.
“Before this, Amreeta was in corporate law, business, and education. Amreeta is also a mom to three amazing children and two Akita fur babies.”
