It smashed into a large wall near the iconic fountain at the intersection of Glen Osmond Rd and Cross Rd – the site of several previous crashes.

The driver, a 65-year-old Millicent man, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and had to be cut from the cabin. He was taken to hospital where it’s understood he is recovering from several fractures.

A light pole could be seen lying across the road while there are heavy tyre markings leading through the intersection and over the median strip.

A tow truck arrived just after 9am to remove the truck.

The flow-on effect of the crash caused utter chaos on Wednesday morning. Motorists were forced to spill on to neighbouring main roads and side streets in a bid to get to the city, with traffic banked up on all roads leading to the intersection.

Cross Rd reopened for westbound traffic earlier.
