If you start him up, he’ll never stop – so it’s understandable legendary midnight rambler Mick Jagger might need a little help to wind down and reset the body clock.
The Rolling Stones frontman seems to have found the answer, thanks to clever minds at Flinders University and the manufacturing skills of Lonsdale firm SMR.
Sir Mick was spotted on the balcony of a Florida hotel wearing light-therapy glasses called Re-Timers, invented and made in South Australia.
Hanging out with his girlfriend Melanie Hamrick in Miami, Sir Mick, 78, was on the last stop of the No Filter tour through European and US cities.
Re-Timer glasses work by shining specific wavelengths of light into the wearer’s eyes for prescribed lengths of time. The glasses help overcome jet lag or shift work problems as well as assist people with sleep disorders.
Conceived by Flinders sleep researchers led by Associate Professor Leon Lack and Dr Helen Wright, the glasses were commercialised with SMR.
“It’s good to see Mick Jagger wearing them,” Prof Lack said.
“They’re useful if you travel across time zones.”
Mick might be the highest profile, but he’s not the first celebrity to wear Re-Timers.
The Norwegian triathlon team in the Olympics used them to prepare for Japanese time while still training in Europe, and Kristian Blummenfelt went on to win gold.
SMR said the glasses helped people go about their normal activities while managing body clock disruptions.
“We are very excited to see such an iconic figure using our portable light therapy glasses,” the general manager of operations Nitin Goyal said.
The Re-Timers’ green-blue light flash might jack a bit more jump, so Mick can always get what he wants.
Time might even be on his side to revisit his 1972 song Shine A Light.
