After two years of missing out on our beloved NYE fireworks displays, 2023 will be welcomed with a big bang.
Returning for the first time since 2019 are the Glenelg and Brighton New Year’s Eve fireworks displays, where there’ll also be free entertainment and live music.
“We’re going to have three lots of fireworks including family-friendly fireworks at both Brighton and Glenelg beaches at 9.30pm with the main event at Glenelg at midnight,” Holdfast Bay Mayor Amanda Wilson said.
“We also have an amazing entertainment line-up at Glenelg starting from 7pm so I encourage people to come out and enjoy the night with their family and friends while supporting our local traders, restaurants and cafes.”
Nine-year-old Grace and eight-year-old Archie are keen to hit the beach and bring in the new year.
“I love coming to the fireworks at Brighton. The best bit is being on the beach to watch the fireworks and getting to stay up late,” Grace said.
Along with Glenelg and Brighton, a few other NYE fireworks displays will be making their return including Victor Harbor and Adelaide City.
The Semaphore NYE fireworks show has been canned by Port Adelaide Enfield Council for the Dockside Festival which ran from December 9-11, and the upcoming Semaphore Foreshore event from December 16-18.
“We are continuing to consider alternative options that are environmentally friendly, cost effective and that bring our community together,” a Port Adelaide Enfield Council spokesperson said.
“Fireworks will be considered for 2023 and we welcome community feedback on this.”
New Year’s Eve celebrations in Murray Bridge have been cancelled this year out of respect for victims of flooding.
The Rural City of Murray Bridge council agreed “it would be inappropriate” for the council to be celebrating by the River Murray at a time when people in the community were impacted from flooding.
“This summer out focus needs to be keeping people and property safe, and supporting those affected by the flood,” Murray Bridge chief executive officer Michael Sedgman said.
“However we do understand how much the community values and enjoys our New Year’s Eve celebrations, and so the council will consider holding a delayed event involving entertainment and fireworks once floodwaters and receded.”
