Just after 12pm, emergency services were called to the Myponga Pistol and Shooting Club, on Lawless Lane, after reports of the incident.
A police spokesman said a man accidentally shot himself in the leg with a firearm.
“There is no major bleeding and it looks like he is going to be okay,” he said.
An SA Ambulance spokeswoman said a helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but may be cancelled by onsite paramedics.
“They’re still trying to ascertain the extent of the injuries,” she said. “It looks like it is an upper-leg injury.”
