Man rescued after falling down mine shaft at Coober Pedy
A late-night search for opals has ended in a frantic rescue, with a man rushed to hospital after falling into a mine shaft.

A 32-year-old man has miraculously escaped serious injury after plunging down an opal mine shaft in Coober Pedy.
It is understood the man was out fossicking for opals with a group of friends about 9.30pm on Friday night, when he slipped and fell into an opening more than 6m deep.
State Emergency Services (SES) crews were called to the scene, there they used a special mine rescue system to winch the man back to safety.
In a stunning escape, the man suffered just a fractured femur.
He was taken to Coober Pedy Hospital for treatment.
In January, a Riverland man survived a fall down a 25m mine shaft in the town.
