A YOUNG man is in an induced coma in hospital after he was found unconscious in the city early Sunday morning.

The Chris Savelli, 21, was found in Register St, off Hindley St, west of Morphett St, just after 3.30am when police and emergency services were alerted.

He was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.
Mr Savelli remains in an induced coma.

The assault is the latest in a string of incidents which have led to calls to both increase safety and change traffic conditions down the notorious party strip.

Two young women were hit by a car as they crossed Hindley St on a night out on June 8.

One of the young women, aged 21 and 20, was thrown into the air after hitting and cracking the windscreen.

A young man died after being knocked unconscious is a wild brawl involving up to 15 people on Hindley St in the early hours of December 10, 2017.

The fight, which broke out between two groups at the intersection of Hindley St and Morphett St at 5.30am, left Jack Hanley, 22, unconscious on the street.

He died at the scene.

Reece Watherston, 20, was charged with manslaughter over Mr Hanley’s death.

Only a month earlier Hindley St was declared a public precinct giving police greater powers to hand out fines and bar people from the party strip between 6pm and 6am on weekends.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack on Mr Savelli or may have any information about the incident.
