Police are hoping to speak to the occupants of three cars that were travelling along Morphett Rd on Thursday night before a crash that killed a 19-year-old motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was killed when his bike collided with a car near Sturm Court, at about 7.40pm.

The Blair Athol man, who was riding on a stolen motorcycle, died at the scene.

The driver of the car, a Warradale man, 54, was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police have released an image of three cars at the intersection of Morphett Rd and Diagonal Rd, a short time before the crash.

The drivers, and any passengers of a green Mazda 2, a blue BMW and a red Mazda 3, are asked to come forward, as they may have information that could assist the investigation.

Those people should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Local resident Brooke Fitzpatrick told The Advertiser she heard a loud bang when the crash happened and came outside.

“I could hear a woman screaming ‘he’s not breathing, he’s not breathing’”, Ms Fitzgerald said.

“I just wanted to give her a hug, I hope she’s OK.”

Ms Fitzgerald said it was sad the young rider had lost his life.

“I don’t know the victim but I just feel for his family, especially hearing he’s only 19.”

Morphett Rd was closed in both directions for several hours while Major Crash Investigators examined the scene.

Police checks revealed the motorcycle had been stolen from Gepps Cross in April.

Peter Duldig, who lives on Morphett Rd also heard the bang.

“It didn’t sound like a car,” Mr Duldig said.

“I’m really sorry to hear a man died. I wish I had gone outside to help.”

Helen Masterton also heard a bang and came outside to see the street lit up “like a Christmas tree”.

“All I could see was ambulances, police cars and medic cars,” Ms Masterton said.

Yolanda Budich works nearby and heard about the crash through a colleague on Thursday night.

Ms Budich said speed restrictions should be introduced on the road after recent developments.

“The traffic on here since they’ve done the train line,” Ms Budich said.

“I think the speed limit could definitely be reduced.”

The man’s death is the 49th life lost compared to 45 at the same time last year.

It follows the death of a 51-year-old man from the Riverland on Sunday.

The man died in a single car rollover at Gurra Gurra, near Berri.
